Worm Gear

tracker_3

The worm gear is made from a piece of 3/8 (9.525mm) threaded rod or a large 3/8 bolt. Make sure the thread pitch matches that of the spur gear you are using, 16-pitch in our case. Cut a 96mm length of rod which is 2mm longer than the motor shaft. The spur gear will be mounted on one end of the worm gear. To make the spur gear seat place the threaded rod into a drill and file aprox 10mm of the end down to a diameter that will fit into the center of the spur gear 5/16 or 8mm in our case (we will post a video of this process). File down 5mm of the opposite end of the worm gear (bottom right picture) to fit the back worm gear shaft guide again 5/16 in our case. You can adjust these diameters to fit the spur gear you are using and you can use a slightly larger or smaller diameter threaded rod.
