Drive Shaft

Cut a piece of 3/8 threaded rod 500mm long, this will be the shaft that rotates the axis of the solar tracker. File down 20mm of one end to a diameter of 8mm to make the seat for the second spur gear. Mount the spur gear onto the shaft and check the alignment as you did earlier with the worm gear assembly, secure the spur gear to the shaft with metal epoxy and let cure. Build a small platform from flat ABS to elevate the end of the shaft so the spur gear will be at a proper height to mesh with the worm gear. Cut out and drill two shaft guides 25mm x 25mm which will hold the bottom of the shaft on the platform.
